Debbie: I needed to take care of myself
Before I was an agent I was a working mom – a wife. My whole focus was my family. My son and my husband.
We were married 12 years and got divorced unexpectedly.
My son, he was three years old at the time, and decided then that I needed to do something to take care of myself.
So I went back to school and worked two jobs with the intent of becoming an agent.
There were times I thought I was going to not make it.
There were times when I was going to school, I was working a 40-hour week, going to college six to nine hours a semester and so there were times I got by on three hours sleep.
I think it does make me more empathetic, and look at things a little differently, and not so ideally.
And I think part of this career, you need to be a nurturer, and women are naturally nurturers, and they care. They care.
