Rod: The Challenges Lead to Success
Scratch agency is basically an opportunity with State Farm to open up a shop in an area that you may want to start your career. And typically as a scratch agent you start from the ground up.
Okay, you have no clients, you open up a brand new office. You're not known in the community unless you're from that area, so it was definitely an interesting opportunity.
Basically I contacted hundreds of businesses, small businesses where I could open up the doors to a lot of people in one place. For one example we have a small business here that I know the owner now and he allowed me to prospect all of his employees…the old fashion door to door sales. You know, I had to introduce myself as a new State Farm agent in Rogers, met with a lot of people that were able to send referrals to me.
So looking back I thought this is going to be tough, at the same time I'm glad I went through it cause quite frankly times now it just makes it that much sweeter.
You hear the comments all the time, the sky's the limit. And quite honestly it is. You can be as successful as you want to be depending on your work ethic, you can make a lot of money. We've been able to do a lot of things that I don't think I would have ever been able to do if this opportunity would not have arose.
I tell you one of the most exciting things about this career is having the opportunity to win or earn in this matter the trips that they provide for us. Just to give you an example, again the blessing behind the opportunity we've been to Hawaii twice already. Took both of my kids on one of those trips, so that was just a time to never forget.
It's just extremely rewarding, and I can't speak enough about the opportunity of being able to be pretty successful financially.
This story is just one of many unique, personal perspectives on being a State Farm® agent.
