Rod: Time For My Family: Invaluable

Having a profession like being a State Farm agent has allowed me the opportunities to also have a personal life. I'm an entrepreneur, I'll have my own business, but that brings a lot of flexibility as well and that flexibility I take advantage of just simply because I'm a family man.

You know I love my wife, I love my kids and I want to spend as much time as I can with them and through those opportunity it gives me the time to spend with them.

If there's a circumstance comes up and my wife can't go pick up the kids from school, if I don't have anything going on here I can pick up and go without any issues per say. So it does bring a sense of peace in that my time with my family is just as important as it is my time here at work.

When I started…I was working from 7 in the morning to 8-9 o' clock at night just trying to figure things out. And I think with time obviously, I've learned how to work smarter and probably put as hard work during the hours that I'm here, but I know that at the end of the day I'll have a shutoff time where I can leave work and go and spend time with my family and do the things that they want me to do as well.

Both of our kids are heavily involved in soccer…When you look at our weekly schedule, it's pretty busy in the evening…Running them to soccer practice, soccer games is ongoing.

But again, the flexibility – I can leave a few minutes early if I have to. It's very rewarding to me.

Not many people have the opportunity to do what we do, so I don't take my job for granted at all.

You have to want it. It's not an 8-5 Monday through Friday job. It's a career and it's important to know that in your heart because even though you have a lot of flexibility…there's a big commitment in being a State Farm agent.

This story is just one of many unique, personal perspectives on being a State Farm® agent.
